Cream City Scholar Program Facts
The Cream City Scholar Program prepares students for leadership and service, especially in the fields of administration, nonprofits and business. The Cream City Foundation believes that undergraduate study is the best preparation for life and career; thus the program aims to promote education while providing opportunities for career exploration and practical experience.
Scholar Responsabilities
Cream City Scholars are expected to commit to a minimum of one academic semester to the program. Priority will be given to applicants willing to do a full academic year.
During the academic year Cream City Scholars will be responsible for 8-15 hours a week of work at the Cream City Foundation offices. This will include but is not limited to the following:
- Development: Aid Executive Director with donor research systems, donor communications, and other general development duties. Conduct follow-up communication with grantees.
- Marketing and Communications: Aid in development and distribution of marketing materials promoting the Foundation, including newsletters, advertisements, and brochures.
- Public Relations and Event Planning: Work as a Foundation liaison to the LGBT and non-LGBT community by attending various community events and serving and facilitating focus groups with community leaders. Plan and execute events on behalf of the Foundation upon approval from the Executive Director.
- Volunteer Management: Create and supervise volunteer groups as needed for various events, functions, and needs of the organization.
- Administrative: Provide support for general office duties.
Candidacy
Eligible candidates must be full-time students at a Southeastern Wisconsin college. The Cream City Foundation is looking for unusually mature students with a record of academic achievement, extracurricular activity, and leadership ability. Successful candidates will maintain at least a 3.00 grade point average. And they will be curious about administration and/or business. The Foundation hopes to foster future leaders who pursue a vigorous, broad undergraduate education while participating in community service, engaging in campus activities, and exploring their vocational calling outside the classroom.
The Foundation commits personal assistance to each Cream City Scholar, including access to its Board members and other leaders in the community. Scholars commit themselves to regular contact with the Foundation and service in their community.
Students can request an application at the Cream City Foundation offices. Following interviews, the Foundation selects no more than two Cream City Scholars per semester.
