Birch Lodge Fund Donates over $6,000 towards April Match Challenge
April 30, 2007
Dr. Robert Starshak and Ross Draegert, advisors of the Cream City Foundation's Birch Lodge Fund, authorized a donation valued at over $6,000 to finish off the $30,000 April Challenge.
The April Challenge started when Cream City Foundation Board members pooled together $15,000 to match any gift to the Foundation during the month of April. By April 30th that challenge had raised over $18,000. It was then that Dr. Starshak and Mr. Draegert decided to make an additional gift to ensure all the match funds were utilized and that the campaign reached its $30,000 goal.
"It impressed us that the community came together with $50 at a time to raise as much as it did," said Dr. Starshak. "We knew our contribution will help recognize the true value of our community's effort."
Dr. Starshak and Mr. Draegert are fixtures of LGBT philanthropy in the Milwaukee area and leading members the Cream City Foundation's success. Last year, they contributed over $200,000 to establish the Birch Lodge Fund and were leaders in funding the fight against the constitutional amendment.
"Robert and Ross know it means to give and support our work towards creating an equitable and healthy community for LGBT people," said Maria Cadenas, Executive Director of the Cream City Foundation. "They are pioneers in the LGBT philanthropic movement."
