Grant Making Philosophy

Cream City Foundation's grant making focuses on solutions that create long lasting change on behalf of LGBT people by focusing on the relationship between widely held beliefs (cultural change) and policies, institutions, structures (organizational change) that produce inequities. 

This approach is based on structural change theory, and it is how Cream City Foundation creates and defines social change.

Cream City Foundation adopted this approach to help develop and implement sustainable strategies that ultimately create social change on behalf of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) individuals. 

Cream City Foundation understands that social change is:

1. Intersectional.  A focus that is inclusive of issues of equity such as race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender among others.
2. Based on a belief that the effects of social change are far-reaching and impact everyone - not just a target population.
   
3. Based on an approach that looks at the relationship between widely held beliefs and institutions, structures, and polices that together maintain inequities in society.  Dismantling these inequities means understanding outcomes and strategies in a new way - one in which individuals or even institutions are not the central actors - but rather puts changing the relationships between institutions, culture and policy change in the forefront.
